Endocrinology and Metabolism
The Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of Binzhou Medical University Hospital was established in 1993, and has become the clinical center for endocrine and metabolic diseases in northern Shandong. At present, the Department has 58 beds and is staffed with 19 doctors and 22 nurses, among whom there is 1 chief physician, 4 associate chief physicians, 3 attending physicians and 11 residents. One doctor has received overseas training.
The Department has an outpatient clinic and an inpatient ward. Currently, the daily outpatient visit is around 80, and the discharged inpatient number is around 100 monthly. The Department is committed to providing the highest standards of care to patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders, including prevention and treatment of diabetes and its related complications, thyroid disorders (hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis and goiter), hypothalamus and pituitary diseases, adrenal diseases, obesity and metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia, osteoporosis and parathyroid diseases, hyperuricemia and gout, growth and development disorders, endocrine hypertension, and reproductive endocrine.
The clinical care of the Department is carried out mainly through the following subspecialties---diabetes group, thyroid diseases group, pituitary and adrenal diseases group, obesity group, perioperative blood glucose management group and osteoporosis group. We offer comprehensive multidisciplinary diabetes care, insulin pump intensive treatment and diabetic education programs. We use 131I to treat hyperthyroidism and ablate residual thyroid tissue in postoperative patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma and thyroid cancer with metastasis after surgery. In the past decades, we have been dedicated fully to providing the best clinical care in the diagnosis, management and treatment of endocrine and metabolic diseases. In addition, as a department of a teaching hospital, we are committed to teaching and training medical students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and doing researches to understand the etiology of diseases as well as new and better methods for disease treatment. In 2013, the department was officially approved as one of the specialties for clinical trial base of new medication for endocrine and metabolic diseases. The Department is also actively doing both basic and clinical research. So far, the staff of the department is running 7 scientific research projects and has published more than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals including 17 original research articles were SCI included.
