Infectious Diseases
After years of development, the department of Infectious Diseases has become a center for diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases and other infectious diseases in Shandong province. It is also the authority for diagnosis and treatment of difficult and severe infectious diseases in the Yellow River Delta. There are 27 clinicians in the department, including 10 physicians and 17 nurses, among whom there are 3 associate professors, 5 attending physicians and 2 residents. 2 members of its staff have achieved doctoral degrees, 7 have achieved master's degrees.
The department consists of a clinic for liver, fever and enteric diseases and a ward with 25 beds. Its annual outpatient visits have reached more than 21,000. We have taken the leading place in Shandong province in carrying out systematic education and management of infectious diseases. We are responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of various infectious diseases and epidemic surveillance, containment, monitoring and prevention of bacterial drug resistance, rational use of antibiotics, and nosocomial infection control.
We have implemented a series of new techniques such as definite diagnosis of fever, manpower liver cures, preparation of liver transplantation in the earlier stage, etc. The main characteristics of our department are the diagnosis and treatment of sorts of hepatitis and their complications. We have successfully rescued a variety of critically ill patients with severe hepatitis (liver failure) and hepatic encephalopathy.
The department director, Associate Professor Li Yunhua now serves as a vice chairman of Binzhou Society of Infectious Diseases, a Committee Member of the Chinese Medical Association. In recent 5 years, the staff of our department has published more than 50 academic articles in medical journals and compiled 7 books. The excellent performance in infectious diseases prevention and control has been praised for many a time by Binzhou municipal government.
Teaching and research are also our major tasks. Undergraduate students, postgraduate students as well as visiting doctors are trained at our department. We have focused on the research of chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C, brucellosis, Epidemic hemorrhagic fever and other infectious diseases. And some gratifying achievements have been achieved in the study of brucellosis.
