The Intensive Care Unit of Binzhou Medical University Hospital was established in June 2002. Through years of development, it has grown into a key discipline of Shandong province, a continuing medical education (CME) base for respiratory diseases, a national clinical medicine trial base and the diagnostic, educational and research center for complicated and acute respiratory diseases in the Yellow River Delta. There are 1 professor and 2 associate professors and many experienced nurses in our department. 3 members of our staff have achieved doctoral degrees, 21 have achieved master's degrees, and 8 doctors have received overseas training.
The department is equipped with bedside monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps and other apparatus to ensure professional treatment for critically ill patients with organ function support, severe infection therapy, nutrition, and long-distance transport.
In addition, the medical staff is an energetic team. Prof. WANG Xiaozhi, director of the department, is a nationwide well-known scholar in critical care medicine. She is a vice chairperson of the Respiratory Medicine Association of Shandong Province, vice chairperson of the Critical Care Medicine Association of Shandong Province, vice chairperson of the Critical Care Medicine Quality Management Center of Shandong Province, vice chairperson of the Respiratory Medicine Committee of Shandong Medical Association and vice chairperson of the Toxication and Occupational Disease Committee of Chinese Medical Association.
We have an annual inpatient visit volume of more than 1,000. Our department has taken the leading place in the Yellow River Delta in carrying out systematic education and management in mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement therapy(CRRT), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), PICCO, high frequency oscillatory ventilation(HFOV), etc.
Scientific research has always been a key mission for the department. Our academic interests lie in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and severe sepsis. Some gratifying achievements have been made. Currently, different specific groups of our team are running nearly a score of ongoing scientific research projects.
Many training programs relevant to critical care will continue to be held by our department in order to improve the diagnostic methods and management in critical care medicine in the Yellow River Delta.
