The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of Binzhou Medical University Hospital (BMUH) is the diagnostic, educational and research center for rheumatic diseases in the Yellow River Delta. It consists of an outpatient ward and an inpatient ward. It is currently staffed with 5 doctors and 15 nurses, among whom there are 2 associate professors. 2 doctors have received overseas training.
The department takes years of continuous exploration in epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment strategies and other aspects of rheumatic diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, goutankylosing spondylitis, inflammatory myopathy, Behcet’s disease, adult-onset Still’s disease, etc. Particularly with support of several projects, the department is making further studies in its advantageous direction of systemic lupus erythematosus and is exploring the major challenges facing rheumatologic clinicians in the areas of refractory and severe lupus erythematosus, including diagnosis and treatment strategies of refractory nephritis, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial pneumonia, hoping to eventually propose new solutions to optimal treatment. We conduct renal biopsy to eva luate the prognosis of lupus nephritis patients. We also use biologics to treat refractory arthritis diseases including ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, etc. With immunoadsorption therapy, we can treat severe lupus and systemic vasculitis.
Research has always been a key mission of our department. We have focused on the research of lupus nephritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout and made some satisfying achievements.
