Established in 2009, the Department of Pediatric Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (PRCCM) of Binzhou Medical University Hospital (BMUH) has now grown into a branch with its unique style. It is one of the earliest Continuing Medical Education (CME) bases for pediatrics doctors in Shandong, a national clinical medicine trial base and the diagnostic, educational and research center for complicated and acute respiratory diseases in the Yellow River Delta. The Department of PRCCM now consists of two wards (one for respiratory diseases and one PICU), one endoscopy room and one pulmonary function laboratory. It is currently staffed with 14 doctors and 23 nurses, among whom there are 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 13 members have achieved master's degrees, and 2 doctors have received overseas training.
The director of the department, Prof. WU Fuling serves as a vice chairman of the Pediatric Respiratory Medicine Association of Binzhou medical association, committee member of the Pediatric Respiratory of Shandong Medical Association.
The Department of PRCCM has taken the leading place in Shandong province in carrying out systematic education and management of Pediatrics. The pulmonary function laboratory is equipped with advanced lung function testing equipment including Impulse Oscillometry (IOS) techniques, and is able to test spirometry, conduct bronchodilation and bronchial provocation tests. The department has initiated the video bronchoscopy right now. The PICU is equipped with a variety of large life-support instrument and advanced monitors.
The Department of PRCCM has always attached great importance to research. It has focused on the research of bronchial asthma, bronchiolitis, respiratory syncytial virus infection, and lung infectious diseases. Some gratifying achievements have been made in the study of on asthma.
