Established in 1977, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) of Binzhou Medical University Hospital (BMUH) has now grown into a branch with its unique style. It is a key discipline of medicine and health in Shandong province, possessing an excellent team. Owing to the co-efforts of generation by generation through four decades, the Department of OMS has developed into the diagnostic, educational and research center for complicated and acute oral diseases in the Yellow River Delta.

 

The Department of OMS now consists of 1 outpatient clinic and 1 ward. There are 33 sickbeds in the ward, with more than 1200 inpatients served and over 1000 operations performed annually. It is currently staffed with 15 doctors and 13 nurses, among whom there are 2 professors and 4 associate professors. 2 doctors have received overseas training. It is equipped with a range of advanced oral maxillofacial surgery diagnosis and therapy facilities. 

 

The department has further strengthened its competitiveness through continuous improvement of diagnosis and therapy skills. Our department is one of the earliest in the province to perform tumor resection in infratemporal space or parapharyngeal space, radical maxillectomy, bilateral radical operation of cervical lymph node, carotid body tumor resection, combined management of glossectomy, mandibulectomy, radical neck dissection and repairing myocutaneous flap, jaw gigantic cysticintraoral fenestration depressor drainage operation, etc. In recent years, for the treatment of malignant tumor, we have employed some most advanced treatment techniques in China, such as molecule targeted and radioactive particles implantation.

 

Our staff has focused on the research of alveolus surgery, head and neck tumor, cleft lip and palate, trauma and plastic, and TMJ diseases and made some gratifying achievements in such aspects as studies on treatment of malignant tumor, mechanism of healing and fixation technology of jaw fractures etc.
