The Department of Urology at Binzhou Medical University Hospital has its honorable history which can be traced back to the 1970s. Under the leadership of Prof. Shi Qizhi and Prof. Zhou Rongxiang, several generations of urologists have dedicated their entire career to the continuous development of the Department of Urology. At present, the Department of Urology has grown into a diagnostic, educational and research center for urology and andrology diseases in the Yellow River Delta. The department is also one of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) bases and national clinical medicine trial base. Equipped with superb facilities the department consists of 51 in-patient beds, three urological operating rooms, one Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) center, one urodynamic examination section, one cystoscope examination section and one urology research laboratory.

 

It is currently staffed with 12 doctors, among whom there are 3 professors, and 2 associate professors and 3 doctors have received overseas training. The department serves 20,000 outpatient consultations and performs around 1,000 surgeries annually.

 

The Department of Urology offers comprehensive eva luation and treatment for all urologic and andrologic diseases, including sexual and reproductive function in men. The strengths of our department include laparoscopy surgery, endourology surgery, orthotopic neobladder technology, minimally invasive lithotripsy and urodynamic study. 

 

All kinds of laparoscopy surgery including the most difficult one, laparoscopic radical cystectomy, can be completed in our department and we have taken the leading place in Shandong province in orthotopic neobladder technology after radical cystectomy. The department is one of the earliest medical institutions conducting endourology surgery. The prevention and treatment of calculi is also a specialty in our department. It is equipped with advanced electronic flexible ureteroscope, nephroscope, Holmium laser and infrared spectrophotometer analysis of urinary stone. Minimally invasive lithotripsy such as Percutaneous nephroscope lithotripsy, electronic flexible ureteroscope lithotripsy adopted in our department alleviates the distress of patients. Our department has initiated the urodynamic study in an early stage and transobturator vaginal tape inside-out (TVT-O) surgery, which is an effective treatment for female stress urinary incontinence and is one of important features of our medical service.

 

For scientific research, the department has achieved more than ten items of scientific research projects and was awarded by the Binzhou Municipality and Binzhou Medical University. It has focused on the research of the urologic carcinoma and the organ transplantation and protection. In the last ten years, the total number of papers and books written by our department staff amounts to 300. The number of papers indexed by SCI is over 10.
