Founded in 2004, the Department of Pediatric Dentistry combines clinical service with teaching and research. With the most advanced facilities and high-tech in the north of Shandong Province, it carries out the diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases and preventive health care work for juveniles under 18 years old. At present, there are 2 clinic rooms with 10 dental units, and an independent dental laboratory. The waiting and the treatment environment is comfortable and relaxing. The team is currently staffed with ten dental medicine doctors (DMDs) and eleven nurses. There are two professors and one associate professor. One of the doctors has achieved a PhD degree, eight have achieved master's degrees, and one doctor has received overseas training.
With the diagnostic criteria and technical means of international advanced level, the principle of treatment is comfortable, painless and minimally invasive. Four-hand operation is adapted in clinical work. The daily clinical service in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry includes: prevention and treatment of dental caries in the child and adolescent; treatment of endodontic and periapical diseases; minimally invasive techniques; management of dental trauma; treatment of the developmental disturbances of the teeth; management of the developing occlusion; treatment for children with disabilities; treatment of dental problems in children with genetic /systemic disease, etc. The advanced technology of diagnosis and treatment at home and abroad is carried outsuch as minimally invasive treatment of early enamel cariescomprehensive prevention and treatment of severe caries in young childrenyoung permanent tooth pulp revascularizationtransitional aesthetic repair of young permanent teethsequence therapy of dental trauma in childrenhigh tension with nitrous oxide sedation and comfortable treatmentdental treatment for special childrenprimary dentition and mixed dental malocclusion deformity of early treatment and management, etc.
As a department in a teaching hospital and the standardization training base for residents, the Department of Pediatric Dentistry has always attached great importance to education and research. It is responsible for the teaching and practicing of undergraduates, postgraduates and standardized training residency. Scientific research has always been a key mission for the department. It has focused on the research of tooth development and dental restorative materials. 4 projects from National Natural Science Foundation and 5 projects from Shandong Natural Science Foundation have been implemented. The academic achievements have been widely recognized at home and abroad.
