Oncology
Established in 1992, the Department of Oncology is a key discipline of Binzhou Medical University Hospital, one of the earliest Continuing Medical Education (CME) bases for thoracic cancer treatment in Shandong, one of the earliest standardized wards of good pain management (GPM), a national clinical medicine trial base and the diagnostic, educational and research center for cancer treatment in the Yellow River Delta. Owing to the co-efforts of generation by generation for more than 20 years, our department now possesses four wards (thoracic cancer I, thoracic cancer II, head and neck cancer, gynecological oncology), one minimally invasive therapeutic room, one multidetector computed tomography, two linear accelerators, and 128 beds. It is currently staffed with 32 doctors, 60 nurses and 10 radiotherapists, among whom there are 3 professors and 3 associate professors. 4 doctors have received overseas training.
Our department advocates interdisciplinary cooperation and exchange (surgery, pathology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, etc). We have established a cooperation group for lung cancer. Following the formal anti-cancer guidelines in our daily work, we focus on providing standardized diagnosis and treatment for every patient. The Advanced oncological comprehensive diagnosis and treatment has been established, which includes radiotherapy, chemotherapy and molecular targeted therapy, for such malignancies as lung cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, gastrointestinal cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer. Radiotherapy is the key technique of our department and we can offer both conventional and high-tech patient care treatments, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) to allow radiation doses to be delivered to the tumor more accurately and thus minimize risks to adjacent normal tissue injuries.
Our academic achievements have been extensively acknowledged both at home and abroad. The academic leader of the department, Prof. ChEN Shaoshui, serves as a committee member of Radiation Oncology Branch of China Medical Association, a standing committee member of Shandong Radiation Oncology Association.
Our Department has always attached great importance to teaching and research. Over the past years, we have nurtured 8 Master’s degree students. We have always insisted on the clinical researches and have participated in 6 clinical drug trials. At present, we are focusing on the research of radiation biology and tumor metastasis.
