The Department of Hematology at Binzhou Medical University Hospital is one of the most prestigious departments of its kind in Shandong province. With strong clinical expertise and molecular diagnostic techniques accumulated over the years, our department has been verified as a key discipline of Shandong province. It is also one of the earliest Continuing Medical Education bases for haematological diseases in Shandong, a national clinical medicine trial base and the diagnostic, educational and research center for complicated haematological diseases in the Yellow River Delta. Each year thousands of patients from surrounding cities come to seek treatment at our department; we are especially renowned for treating such complicated hematological disorders as anemia, bleeding disorder and leukemia.

 

We are proud of having a strong and high-level clinical and research team which includes 2 professors, 4 associated professors, 10 consultants and 3 residents. We have 62 sickbeds and 6 laminar flow beds. Yu Wenzheng, the academic leader serves as a vice chairperson of Binzhou Hematology Association, vice chairperson of Shandong Province Society of Diagnostics. She was trained in Korea on hematological malignancies and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Our department is strengthening its competitiveness by establishing 5 subspecialties: Red Blood Cell Disease, Leukemia, Lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma, Hemorrhagic Disease and Pediatric Leukemia. Its annual outpatient visits have reached more than 20,000; its annual inpatients reached more than 1,500, 50% of whom are critical and complicated cases.

 

We are one of the largest haematology departments in Shandong province. Over the past few years, intensive attention has been devoted to improving molecular diagnostic techniques. We aim to screen each patient not only at morphological level but also at genetic level. Recently we have also diagnosed various blood diseases at both the morphologic and the molecular genetics level, which has significantly improved the treatment efficacy of many hematological malignancies.

 

We have always attached great importance to teaching and research. We offer courses for undergraduate students, postgraduate students and visiting doctors. At present, we are focusing on the research of acute leukemia, immune thrombocytopenia, and myeloproliferative disorders. Our department has made gratifying achievements and taken a leading role in Shandong province in myeloproliferative disorder studies.
