Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nephrology
The Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nephrology (PGN) of Binzhou Medical University Hospital (BMUH) is a key discipline of Binzhou Medicine University (BMU), and it is also the Continuing Medical Education, Standardization training base for residents of Shandong province. The department has a skilled health care team, which is currently staffed with 12 doctors and 22 nurses. The doctors are all MMSCs, among whom there are 1 professor and 2 associate professors. There is 1 vice director in the nurse team. It is equipped with 44 beds, including 12 laminar flow beds and 32 common beds, and advanced ECG monitors, syringe pumps, physiotherapeutic apparatuses.
PGN is mainly responsible for the treatment of common and critical pediatric diseases, especially for infectious, respiratory, urinary and digestive diseases. Some technologies have been carried out in clinical application: joint application of low-dose dopamine and furosemide via micro-pump technology to treat refractory edema of nephrotic syndrome; joint application of cedilanid saturation and singulair to treat severe infant bronchiolitis individually; Ibuprofen’s assisted function in treatment of children’s lobar pneumonia; the clinical application of serum procalcitonin for infectious diseases of children; the clinical application of serum BNP in the diagnosis and treatment of infants with severe pneumonia. By extensively carrying out these new technologies, the department has established the academic status and the professional influence in the north part of Shandong, which provides better service for patients as well as bringing economic benefits for the hospital.
PGN has cultivated more than 10 masters. In addition to the heavy clinical work, it undertakes the work of the training of pediatric residents, refresher doctors, and intern doctors. The department has sent out several doctors to Beijing, Shanghai and other cities for academic exchanges. Furthermore, the department has signed an agreement with the Children's Hospital at Westmead, Australia, carrying out international pediatrics postgraduate courses (IPPC). In respect of research, PGN has published more than 50 papers on core journals in the past five years, including 2 SCI indexed papers. It has also authored 5 pediatric textbooks, applied 8 patents, undertaken 8 provincial-level research projects, obtained 5 provincial-level awards.
