Established in 1989, the Department of Oral Medicine (OM) of Binzhou Medical University Hospital (BMUH) is the key Clinical Specialty of Shandong Province. The department now consists of three sbuspecialties --- endodontics, periodontics and oral mucosal. Owing to the co-efforts of generation by generation through three decades, the department has now become a comprehensive center of diagnosis, education and research for oral medical diseases in the Yellow River Delta. As a department of a teaching hospital, the Department of OM has always attached great importance to education. It is responsible for the teaching, practicing of undergraduates, postgraduates and visiting doctors.  It is currently staffed with 13 doctors and 4 nurses, among whom there is 1 professor and 7 associate professors. 

 

The Department of Oral Medicine has introduced lots of internationally advanced medical equipment, including dental chairs, dental operating microscope, root canal length meter, imported nickel titanium system for root canal preparation ,ultrasonic root canal treatment system, Cordless Gutta Percha Obyuration System, adjacent surface forming system, laser tooth whitening instrument, digital X ray machine, oral endoscope, digital image transmission system, periodontal treatment instrument, and medical instrument disinfection equipment.

 

Our department has successfully carried out a number of complex diagnoses and treatments technology, such as preservation of residual crown and root, dentin hypersensitivity desensitization therapy, Cold light teeth whitening operation, painless pulp therapy, rubber dam isolation, warm gutta-percha obturation, dental operating microscope root canal therapy, root canal retherapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine and western medicine treatment of oral mucosal diseases and other high-end techniques. 

 

Scientific research has always been a key mission for our department. It undertakes 2 state-level projects, 7 provincial level projects and more than 10 patents, and has published more than 200 academic papers. Some of our dentists are trained at domestically well-known hospitals each year. We have also invited famous scholars for academic exchange, and established a good cooperative relationship with them, which promoted our medical proficiencies continuously.
