Owing to the co-efforts of our entire staff, most of the modern assisted reproductive techniques have been successfully carried out in our center, including in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), testicular sperm aspiration (TESA)/ percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection, frozen-thawed embryo transfer(FET), multifetal pregnancy reduction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), etc. We are the diagnostic, educational and research center for complicated infertility in the Yellow River Delta.
The Center of Reproductive Medicine now consists of one ward, one operating center, one embryo culture room, one embryo freezing room, one ultrasound examination room and one laboratory. It is currently staffed with thirteen doctors and six nurses, among whom there is one professor and three associate professors. Four members of its staff have achieved doctoral degrees, seven have achieved master’s degrees, and one doctor has received overseas training. The department can perform a variety of infertility diagnosis and treatment of diseases, such as: polycystic ovary syndrome, ovulation disorders, fallopian tube obstruction, severe cervical erosion, oligoasthenoteratozoospermia sperm, semen liquefaction, prostatitis, sexual dysfunction, varicocele and so on.
We have established a Reproductive Ethics Committee composed of professionals from ethics, medical psychology, law, sociology, reproductive medicine, nursing and so on. Reproductive Medicine is legitimately running with the support and supervision of the Ethics Committee. In 2003, the first test tube baby of Binzhou was born at our hospital. So far, we carry out more than 300 IVF cycles per year, with the successful pregnant rate around 50-60%, the current center outpatient volume reaches 200-250 on work days. With approximately 50,000 patients receiving treatment and more than 8000 babies born with our help (through assisted reproductive technology), our work has produced a great impact in northern Shandong.
Scientific research has always been a key mission for us. We have focused on the research of polycystic ovary syndrome, sexual dysfunction and so on. So far, we have published more than 100 papers on academic journals, and acquired many research projects supported by Natural Science Foundation of Shandong Province and Binzhou City.
