Otorhinolaryngology

Established in 1978, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology has now grown into a branch with unique style. It takes pride in its tradition of excellence in patients care, education, and research. There are 47 sickbeds in the department of otorhinolaryngology, with more than 2000 inpatients and over 1000 operations performed annually and more than 150 daily outpatients. Presently, it has a staff of 37, including 14 doctors, 8 of whom are associated professors. It is equipped with advanced otorhinolaryngology facilities for diagnosis and therapy.

In recent years, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology has achieved a compelling development and ranked in the top-level in the Yellow River Delta. Owing to the co-efforts of generation by generation through three decades, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology now consists of two wards (1 for ear, throat, vertigo, head and neck diseases and the other for nasal diseases), 1 endoscopy room, 1 audiometry function room, and 1vestibular function room and hearing aid equipment room.

The department is the first to adopt nasal endoscope for sinusitis, nasal polyps and nasal sinuses benign tumor in the Yellow River Delta, and the number of nasal patients receiving such treatment is more than 1000, with a surgery success rate above 90%. Our department also performs nasal cavity and lacrimal sac ostomy, which improves surgery efficacy and avoids face incision. The annual nasal endoscope training program trained a good many professionals nationwide. Our department has taken the leading place in Shandong province in carrying out systematic education and management of complicated and acute Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Diseases.

We are one of the units conducting cochlear implant early in Shandong province and have completed more than 100 cochlear implant operations, with a surgery success rate above 95%. During the past decade, throat discipline has made considerable improvement in the surgery efficacy of partial throat excisions. We applied cervix and pectoralis major myocutaneous flap to repair cervical tissue defect and improved the therapy efficacy of late head and cervical tumor, which is at the domestic leading level.

We have obtained several grants to conduct scientific researches for the better understanding of the ear diseases. As a department of a teaching hospital, we also take the responsibility for training medical undergraduates, postgraduate students, and residents. We have established collaborations with world distinguished hospitals like Case Western Reserve University Hospital for scientific exchanges.
